VFISH would like to promote a small but significant change in the use of energy.
This is to be done with our "Save a Light Watt" campaign.
What is the campaign about?
By replacing standard incandescent light bulbs in your home with fluorescent lighting you can significantly reduce energy wastage.
Each 100W bulb you replace with a 27W Fluorescent light saves um 100-27 = 63Watts of energy or approximately 60% of your lighting energy.
Replace a 60W bulb with 14W Fluorescent bulbs
Replace 40W bulbs with 10W Fluorescent bulbs
(Save even more by dropping from an equivalent 100W(27W) to a 60W(13W) and save a MASSIVE 85%!!)
Where should Fluorescent lamps not be used?
Some people who are prone to epilepsy report that the 50/60 Hz flashing of a Fluorescent causes them discomfort.
There are other reasons of course and they will be added here when we are notified.
Fluorescent lamps suffer from cold temperatures they become less efficient and emit less light. (Graphs to follow) So the savings when used in garages or sheds will be reduced however it will still be a saving.
VFISH would like to set a target of
an additional 2500 watts per week
and
you can help by reporting any lamp changes you make to SaveIt@vfish.co.uk. I
have started the campaign by changing 6 out of my 9 lamps for
a saving of 375W. I will be going over to my parents house to replace
4 of theirs at the weekend. I also replaced 2 bulbs in my office that's
a total of 12 lamps saving 750 Watts. (Easy!)
Any saved watts notified to us will be added to the totaliser and your name
/ nickname will be posted on this site.
2500 Watts is equivalent to replacing just 40 bulbs between us.
An additional 2500 watts per week will mean a massive 130,000 watts saved
per year and probably not achievable but lets give it a bash guys!
You can also help by influencing friends, neighbours, work colleagues, even
taxi drivers and shop keepers and reporting any saving that they
make.
Oh and as a small bonus you will also seriously reduce your electricity
bill. Some reports state the electricity savings for an average 3 bedroom
house would be in the region of 300 to 400 pounds a year. Apart from
getting rid of the car there is no easier way to save energy
and money.
Additionally Fluorescent lamps last up to 14 times as long but only cost
around 4 times the equivalent Incandescent lamp.
So there is another saving of about 50 quid a year (Not sure about the calc
here)
No changes are needed to your lighting fittings as Fluorescent are
available to fit standard light bulb sockets.
If our children's children's children are going to have a planet to live
on we need to do something, anything to reduce power wastage.
The 'Watts' quoted on this page are Watts per hour of use of
the bulb.
Total energy consumption will vary depending on the hours the bulb is
running.
